Notes: When I would throw parties, I would always lock my cat in the basement and put a sign on the door which read, “Don’t release the Kraken”. In 2018 my roommate and best friend of 14 years, Banjo Dudecat, passed away. I was brutally hurt and wanted to pay homage to him. So, I made him a song that fit his demeanor: rockin’ and bad ass. The séance is my parting message about him laid out backward. Don’t lock up the Kraken in your life, let them run wild.
lyrics
Release The Kraken
The ancient world, filled with magic,
I wonder do they know what we didn’t,
Closer to the earth and more connected,
You gotta love the beasts of ancient lore,
Like the Pegasus and the unicorn,
Genie wishes and dragon roars,
Leprechaun, Sphinx, riddles in the night,
Duck-billed Platypus, yeah right,
Yeah, they’re cool, I guess alright,
But none could beat the Kraken in a fight.
(chorus #1)
There are many ancient mythical beasts,
But only one do I desire to reach,
He’s the demon of the deep,
He’s the one who has my interest piqued,
The Kraken (X6) ________ The Kraken
(chorus #1)
A giant cephalopod, 12 fathoms deep,
Sailors say he’s got rocks for teeth,
Made of magic to make people deceased,
The internet brings ancient peoples close,
I read Ovar Oddr and darker tomes,
The sea by Greenland is the Kraken’s home,
The twisted thing says submerged for days,
And swallows everything in its way,
Then vomits its food to attract more prey,
I spoke too much, the name’s taboo to say.
(chorus #2)
I read all of the ancient texts,
And I did it all on the internet,
Where he lived, killed, loved, and went,
And I wanna do something I might regret,
He’s The Kraken (x6) _______ The Kraken
(chorus #2)
I learned incantations in ancient tongues,
He knows what I want, how I want it done,
Bring the beast ashore for destruction,
I got a circle of friends that I can trust,
To harness every wave and every gust,
As a sacrifice if one acts up,
On a plane to Greenland we went,
I stood by the watery ocean depths,
To awake the monster from its rest,
Tame the beast, bring the death.
(chorus #3)
I traveled back to the Motherland,
Next to a body of water I stand,
Incantations and tribe at hand,
With the beast, we’ll raize the land,
Release The Kraken (X6) _______The Kraken
(chorus #3)
Calling him in, it was the easiest,
He reared his dreadful head above the surface,
Came to the land, I told him his purpose,
But he was gentle with deep perception,
He was misunderstood, filled with compassion,
Mirrored the monster in me, after a fashion,
Like a scene from the “Pete’s Dragon” movie,
He had other kids he had to see,
Take a piece of thine heart with thee,
The whirlpool spins as he drops into the sea.
(chorus #4)
When he rose, I wanted destruction,
But I grew per his instruction,
He taught me about life and compassion,
I drift and wonder when his next rise will happen,
I miss The Kraken (X6), I love The Kraken, The Kraken.
(chorus #4)
